A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1: Rong He
Eight
Art Hotel hosts this pop-up exhibition celebrating for ouf Shanghai’s
most active graffiti writers: Dezio (pictured above), Omacke, More and Taye. This show
will feature a different side of their art that the streets can’t
handle.

2. Unordinary Space
Aurora Museum invites contemporary artists Liu Shiyuan, Yin Xiuzhen and Gentucca Bin to create site-specific works to complement its wonderful collection of antiques. The pieces are centered around Yin’s Digestive Cavity installation (see cover image). Expect a variety of works that explore the space as a container, surface and a digital platform.

3. Impermanent Sceneries
Art + Shanghai’s first exhibition of 2016 features three young Chinese artists exploring China’s ever changing cities. Chongqing-based Hu Weiqi’s works (see above) are “chock full of images and eye-catching headlines that are devoid of actual stories,” Beijing-born Zhang Wenchao comments on the constant evolution of cities by creating fictionalized versions akin to video games, while Beijing-based Sun Yu explores the changes of Shanghai’s Da Shijie amusement part since its construction in 1917.

4. Figures of Speech
The West Bund based Shanghai Center of Photography hosts this group exhibition that celebrates the work from a few Hong Kong based photographers from the 1950s to today. Participants include Fan Ho, Meng Minsheng, Leung ChiWo ara Wong, Yau Leung (see above) and Stanley Fung.

5. National Geographic: A New Age of Exploration
Shanghai World Financial Tower hosts the iconic magazine’s first major Mainland exhibition. All of their covers are dislayed on an 18-meter long wall, but it’s pricy to get in with tickets ranging from RMB180-250.

6. Amitai Kav
With big wigs like Hillary Clinton and the Queen of Sweden as fans, 60-year-old Amitai Kav is one of Israel’s most renowned jewelry designers. His award-winning pieces were chosen to mark the country’s bi-millennium celebrations in 2000. Having toured the world with his precious gems, Kav stops in Shanghai with his students to present the art of jewelry making. For more, check out our interview with Kav.
